The year is 2100, Julius Caesar awakens from his slumber.
Now imagine, a man born around 100 B.C., coming back to life with the memory of his past fully intact while completely unware of his present existence. Though an old man, he is a seedling in the space of time. His grasp of the modern can only be informed from his past.
In similar vain, we are all seedlings rooted in soil cultivated by our ancestors regardless of geographical location, economic status, political leanings, religious tendencies, and demographic profile. Yes, those modern sensibilities inculcate our upbringing and inform us about the soil, but they also can deceive us through a shallowness, preventing us from digging deeper into the roots of our past.
My mythical Caesar would be out of his element, yet his state of being would be more aware than our own as he has the past to guide him.
Human nature has not changed as much as adapted through the ages in its surroundings but at the heart our nature remains the same. We build monolithic structures, incur wrath, lie, steal, cheat, kill… our nature is full of pride and whatever good that the world can define. Caesar knows these passions all too well.
Technology may change, but the wheels on your Toyota Prius performs the same purpose since the dawning of the wheel. Past and present hold a similar stream regardless if you never walk into the same river twice.
So what is my point?
Presently, we are living in uprooted times. Late modern man is a seedling without roots. Foundations have decayed or been deconstructed to our detriment. Even Caesar would realize something is amuck.
The purpose of The Journey is to explore our present world while simultaneously uncovering the roots, the foundations that bring meaning and order to our fractured lives.
Exploring the meaning of community, marriage, God, and friendships too matters of war, art, food, politics, and wine I intend to develop a continuity of mind for the reader. A continuity of who we really are and need to become rather than remain.
There is much to be said, much to be explored. Welcome to the Journey.
